Coaching

Wondering what or unsure of the difference between coaching and counselling or therapy? There are many overlapping similarities which make it hard, but put most simply, counselling aims to resolve clients’ pasts and depending on the counsellor/therapist can diagnose, whereas coaching transforms clients’ futures and can not diagnose but refer out.

There is plenty you can find on the web describing all the ways therapy and coaching are similar and different. One of my personal favourites in differentiating the two is that coaching works with the client to recognize and achieve goals by the identification of obstacles and problematic behaviours in order to create action plans to achieve desired results. Therapy focuses on past traumas and issues to change self-destructive habits, repair and improve relationships and work through painful feelings.
